Donald Brand, "FDR and the Second Bill of Rights" (Part 2 of 2)

This seminar examines the relationship of the New Deal to the American political tradition. It focuses particular attention on Franklin Roosevelt's reformulation of the ends of American government through his call for a second Bill of Rights. What is the relationship between the first Bill of Rights and the second Bill of Rights? Is the second Bill of Rights consistent with notions of limited government and constitutional rule? These questions are explored through an analysis of the New Deal and its legacy for the American regime. Donald R. Brand is an Associate Professor of Political Science and Chairman of the department at College of the Holy Cross.
