The Real Deal Insider #22 Jon Brownstoner

Jon Brownstoner

Jon Brownstoner has been blogging about Brooklyn real estate since before blogging became big in Brooklyn real estate. Here's what he thinks.

In late 2004, a Wall Street worker bought a five-story building with nine fireplaces as his family's home in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. Shortly thereafter, he started a blog called Brownstoner.com.

Since then, the blog, authored by the pseudonymous Jon Brownstoner, has become a popular point for debate on Brooklyn real estate, especially when it comes to older Brooklyn buildings vs. newer Brooklyn development – and, for that matter, longtime Brooklyn residents vs. newer arrivals in America's fourth-largest city. Also, in April, Brownstoner launched a companion called Brokerate.com, which allows users to rate New York real estate brokers.

In a recent podcast with Brownstoner, the blogger shared his views on what's happened to Brooklyn real estate in the last few years and on what's the impact of blogging on how brokers sell themselves to the public.
