Cruise 2008 Fashion RunwayFrida Gannini continues to bring freshness, energy and verve to the Gucci men's and women's image - along with a rebellious streak in the Cruise Collection for 2008.
Throughout the women's collection, Frida juxtaposes feminine and tough rebel imagery to extraordinary effect. Full skirts circling the body, sophisticated prints and embroidery detail, worn with sexy tailored jackets and tops, provide a new take on the classic silhouette of the 1950s. Short cocktail shapes for evening wear feature embroidery with colour or black and white blocking.
Throughout the collection, Frida plays with strong colour - with orange, green, yellow and citrus shades interrupting daring black and white designs. The collection's colours are enhanced and accentuated with bold graphics and prints drawn from Gucci signature imagery of bamboo, coral and stylised leopard motifs. The boldness of the colours, prints and shapes continues through the range of strong, boyish yet feminine biker jackets featuring beaded grommets and the leather Varsity style blouson.
Frida's reinterpretation of classic iconography continues in the shoes featured in the Cruise Collection. Bi-coloured pumps, ballerina shoes and even men's Oxfords extend the combination of playful femininity with rebellious energy. In bags, the approach is big and soft - combining colours and shapes to complement and support the Cruise ethos. With the ‘Pop-Bamboo' collection – featuring high-gloss bags with lacquered bamboo handles – Frida again brings her fresh approach to Gucci's legacy.
With biker and bomber jackets, belted military jackets and the new Gucci Varsity - along with the bold use of colour among strong optical black and white graphics - the men's Cruise line demonstrates a consistency of vision that extends across Gucci's collections.
