It’s finally out and you can grab it here. You need to have a valid copy of Windows to install it. And of course the usual disclaimers - it’s beta and most likely buggy. Microsoft announced that it would release a security update to help protect customers from exploitations of a vulnerability in the Windows Meta File (WMF) area of code in the Windows operating system on Tuesday, January 2, 2006, in response to malicious and criminal attacks on computer users that were discovered last week. According to this page, the life cycle for Windows XP Home Edition ends 12/31/06. You do realize how bad this sucks right? Microsoft is releasing Vista close to that time frame. This really shows how long it too for another release to come out. For Home users I hope they extend it…because that’s ridiculous.
