Phoenix Jettison One PointAfter a tough game in Basingstoke, the Phoenix were hoping for a chance to narrow the gap at the top with a home win against the Slough Jets, even more so with the Bison taking a beating from the Phantoms down in Cambridgeshire.
Sadly, it was not to be and the game, which lost its pace in the second period, came down to a penalty shootout.
With misses by the Phoenix shooters, it was Bakrlik who swaggered a deked shot past Fone to end it all.
A one point weekend was not what the do... 12/2/2012 3. By hook or by crook!Well, that was a big game, for sure. The comeback kings nearly pulled off a great upsetter for the Phoenix but controversy reigned supreme at the Dome.
Yes, it was all a bit emotional but you can take nothing against Stevie Lyle in the Bison net. He was immense. The Phoenix boys rarely getting right in on the Bison net (except in that third period) but working hard throughout.
It has not been a comfortable weekend but there is plenty of time for Phoenix to grab back the Crown from ... 11/25/2012 4. Cat-astrophe AvertedAlex-off-of-the-BBC takes over hosting duties on this week’s show.
What a game it was, too! The Wildcats looked like they were out of the game by the end of the first period but, as we are used to seeing, things don’t always work out the way you think they are going to.
The Wildcats took the game all the way to overtime when they scratched their way back into the game. It was a goal by Luke “The Sniper” Boothroyd that saved the day and prevented Phoenix fans s... 11/18/2012 5. Phantoms Pipped & Trouble in TelfordA two-point weekender of highs and lows for the Phoenix. Without Coach Hand calling the shots, Phoenix were lacking a certain control this weekend and, whereas on Saturday that didn’t bite too much, on Sunday, the Telford Tigers punished every mistake and every little lapse in focus by the Phoenix. Declan Ryan stood on his head for the Tigers on Sunday night and Phoenix found the metal no fewer than five times in the second period but a defence that leaked badly at times meant that the breakaw... 11/11/2012 6. Dogs Get PoundedOh, I have waited to call an episode that for a little while!
Sheffield came to the Ice Dome looking to break their bad run of form and to build on the win against the Phantoms the night before. They left with their tails between their legs.
Andre Payette must have been smarting on the way home; not just from the 9-1 trouncing but also from the pasting he took from Robert Schnabel.
It was a strange sort of game, really. A couple of disallowed goals (one each) and some penaltie... 11/4/2012 7. The Bees Have Had Their Chips! An incredible weekend for the Phoenix with 4 points to show for it and a remarkable road win. Not just that but a Gordie Howe hat trick at the Ice Dome and some helpful results coming in elsewhere in the league.
Whilst not a terribly pretty game at Altrincham on Sunday, it’s fair to say that the 7-1 result is refreshing to see on that scoreboard.
On this week’s show, Paddy from A View From The Bridge podcast drops by to say hello and to weigh in on the whole “what&rsq... 10/28/2012 8. Lightning Struck DumbAnother nail-biter at the Altrincham Ice Dome this weekend. A great start by Phoenix but a slippery patch towards the middle of the game meant that MK were in it all the way.
A penalty shoot-out is never a nice way to finish a game like this but it seemed inevitable as the third period ticked away.
On this week’s show, we start with period-by-period summaries from Jim “Tambo” Piper down in Basingstoke. We then move on to the usual punditry in the car park. There i... 10/21/2012 9. The Pyro Derby produces a sparkWould any of you have put money on four points out the Guildford double-header weekend? Really?
Well, even if you would have done, you might not have put the house on it. It was always set to be tough and it certainly delivered.
This weekend saw the most passionate and feisty play that we have seen at the Ice Dome since the season in a clash that had a bit of everything. There were scraps, goals, checks that would put most people on their backsides and a victorious Phoenix side eme... 10/14/2012 10. Psur-prise, Psur-prise!The title pun is courtesy of Alex-off-of-the-BBC - not my fault for once.
Well, that was a game that had Phoenix fans sobbing in their seats at times and then jumping with glee right at the end. Sometimes, the net just seems too small and the ice has bumps that seem determined to deprive you of every chance, every pass and every hope.
The result of this game caught out a few of the podcast pundits who, for a while there, found their faith cracking.
In many ways, of course, we kn... 10/7/2012 Page 1 of 3 21 Episodes
