Jesus ended the Old Testament priesthood. Before Adam sinned in the garden of Eden, he was in contact and constant communication with God so he had no need for alters, sacrifices and practices.

Alters, sacrifices and practices came as a result of the fall of Adam. These were the means by which the fallen man could communicate with God. But from the beginning it was not so. In God's original plan, Adams heart was his alter and fellowship was his sacrifice. This made man bigger than alters and sacrifices and greater than practices

Although Adam lost this in the garden of Eden, Jesus came as the priest who lives forever and restored what Adam lost to us.
