Nebuchadnezzar made a golden image that was 30 meters tall and 3 meters wide. Everyone was ordered to fall down and worship it. Whoever refused would be thrown into a fiery furnace.
Daniel's three companions refused so they were thrown into the furnace. The fire was so hot that it burned to death those who made it. But not Daniel's friends. Not a hair on their heads was singed and they didn't even smell smoky.
Nebuchadnezzar saw someone with Daniel's friends in the furnace who looked like the son of God. The whole thing impressed the king so much that he became a Jew again. (Like he did in the last chapter.)
Daniel is completely missing from this chapter. No one knows why. It's one of the great mysteries of the Bible.
