Don’t think that I don’t see,

Those sleepy eyes, sweet girl. 

They’re dark and ready to rest. 

They look at me with protest.

Don’t think that I don’t know,

That you could play all night. 

Your smile wants to grow.

Your mind craves to know.

Your day has been so full,

You’ve felt the highs and lows,

Sleepy eyes gaze at me,

With unconditional love.

Sleepy arms wrap around me,

I feel the tiny thump of your heartbeat.

My deep, full inhale,

Slows your breath down. 

The warmth of my skin finds yours,

The rhythms of my body assures.

Sleep now, sweet one, 

Those sleepy eyes are done. 

Let them fall heavy and take you,

I know you’ve lived loud today,

Your soul is fully expressed. 

I look at you with admiration,

I smile at you in celebration.

You pull me in closer, 

I love you, Mommy, you whisper.
