Ep.21 - on Media: Joe Versus the Volcano (1990), Therapy, & Personal Growth [GUEST: Ashley Diane Currie (SEAL Team, The Way We Weren't)] [GUEST REQUEST]
It's a Guest Request episode! Our guest is the supremely funny Ashley Diane Currie, and she requested (nay, demanded) A New Perspective on the 1990 Tom Hanks / Meg Ryan flop, Joe Versus the Volcano!
We discuss how the film is decades ahead of its time, and is perhaps one of the quintessential unknown films of all time. We talk about the careers Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan had when this film came out, how much of a risk it was, and the fact that the film operates as an instruction manual to waking up. While discussing the themes of the film, we also touch on generational trauma, abuse, depression, and Ashley gives some mental health tips that we've implemented into our daily lives (and we feel great!).
If you haven't seen Joe Versus the Volcano, we cannot recommend strongly enough that you seek it out and watch it immediately. Listening to our conversation won't ruin the movie, but it'll be a lot more fun if you know what we're talking about.
If you have any comments, questions, or episode requests, email us at ANewPerspectivePod@gmail.com -- We promise, we read every one! If you like what we're doing, the easiest way you can help us is to give us a 5-star rating on whichever service you use to listen. It makes us more searchable and helps us to find more listeners! As always, the first 15 reviews on iTunes will get a custom, improvised song by Amber-Tiana during one of our future episodes.
New episodes weekly on Sundays.
