Welcome to Everyday Happiness where we create lasting happiness, in 2 minutes a day, through my signature method of Intentional Margins® (creating harmony between your to-dos and your priorities), happiness science, and musings about life.
I'm your host Katie Jefcoat and achieving fulfilled happiness is an internal job. As much as we want to think there are hacks and tips and ideas that create happiness, at the end of the day, I think it’s within us. Of course, I’ll share ways to boost happiness. It helps. But if you bring that down to the micro level, it’s internal.
There is science indicating that we can create lasting happiness over time by doing simple things that change the neurons in our brains. That’s cool. And it works. But before we get to the part, we have to believe that what we are doing matters and is making tiny progress toward the bigger goal, which in this case is fulfilled happiness.
So if you are saying out loud or writing down your list of gratitudes while rolling your eyes, you are not going to have the same outcome as someone who is really feeling grateful and appreciative for their list of gratitudes.
We’ve talked at length about how this is the journey, the long game, we never really reach the top of the mountain -- that’s not the goal. And for us goal achievers out there, me included, it’s a mindset shift we have to get behind first, before we can reap the rewards of the happiness journey.
Instead of looking at happiness as a destination - when I get {fill in the blank}, I’ll be happier, more satisfied, more content - as if it’s a straight line. I invite you to think of happiness as a continuous circle, or a wheel, one where you experience all of the emotions and just put a little more focus on happiness.
There’s that saying, “what you focus on grows”, so I wonder, what are you focusing on today? Let us know on social @everydayhappinesswithkatie. And if you’d rather get this delivered to your inbox to read or click the play link, you can sign up over at www.katiejefcoat.com/happiness
