Today’s word is: intuitive. Would you like to know what it means?  It means: an understanding based on feelings rather than facts or proof, easy to use or operate without instructions or prompted by natural tendency.

In this English vocabulary lesson you will learn how to use the word intuitive. We are sure that this ESL lesson will help you to enhance your English vocabulary and speak English fluently and confidently.

The word intuitive signifies a feeling or capability which is based on the inner thought process. It may not be backed by data or proof.

For example, the child’s intuitive skill to select and play a song on a music player was amazing.

Listen carefully how we can use the word intuitive in 8 different situations in 8 different sentences.

Example number 1 of 8:  Eugene became a famous author by the time he turned twenty. His writing style was exceptional and lucid. He had an intuitive ability to anticipate  the readers’ preferences.

Example number 2 of 8:  Everyone was enchanted to see little Kavya defeat a much older opponent in the game of chess. The experts analysed the game and concluded that her intuitive moves in the game were formidable and hence the opponent was defeated.

Example number 3 of 8:  The class teacher observed Sayuri and intuitively realised that something was bothering her. He discussed the matter with her and came to know that she was worried about her mother who was ill. He gave her confidence and assured her that things will improve soon.

Example number 4 of 8: The software company received a feedback from users that the present version of their product is quite complex and difficult to use.  The management of the company took note of the same and asked the design team to come up with a new intuitive interface for the users.

Example number 5 of 8:  Pratham started learning classical music from a renowned musician. After a few months, his teacher called his parents and praised his intuitive sense of music. She also suggested that they should encourage him to be an accomplished musician.

Example number 6 of 8:  Sherlock is a detective specialising in solving criminal cases. Often, when there are no clues or evidences, he relies on his intuition to make further progress in the case.
