The Kewanee City Council met on Monday, April 25th, 2022, in council chambers and broadcast live on the RegionalDailyNews.com WKEI Facebook page. On the agenda were several items including a discussion of allowing the sale of Fireworks in the City of Kewanee. Currently, the closest place to purchase Fireworks is in nearby Atkinson. A new ordinance would allow for businesses with specific permits to sell legal fireworks in the City Limits of Kewanee. Use of Fireworks in Kewanee City Limits remains greatly restricted by state law. Mayor Moore indicates that the City of Kewanee would benefit from taxing the sales of Fireworks in the City of Kewanee as well as from the permit costs. He did however, also state that use of Fireworks would be restricted to larger rural areas outside of the City of Kewanee and that the use of Fireworks remains under the restrictions posed by state law. The Mayor of Kewanee also discussed changes to the parking ordinance related to Payson Street in Kewanee, and the demolition of another decrepit property in the City of Kewanee on today's Wake Up Tri-Counties.
