The Doctrine of Christ - Lesson 3 | Grow in Grace

This lesson continues the study of the Person of Christ by examining the question of whether Jesus could have sinned, a debate often framed as impeccability (unable to sin) versus peccability (able to sin but not sinning).  The lesson presents arguments for both positions, noting that some theologians believe Christ’s divine nature made sin impossible, while others argue that His genuine humanity meant He could have sinned but consistently chose obedience through the power of the Holy Spirit.   The teacher cautiously supports the view that Jesus was capable of sinning in His humanity, comparing Him to Adam before the Fall, yet emphasizes that He remained completely sinless and resisted every temptation.  Ultimately, the lesson concludes that Jesus experienced real temptation as a true human being and overcame it not through the direct exercise of His divine power, but through perfect dependence on the Holy Spirit.
