While much of the renewed interest comes from gold’s role as a safe haven and store of wealth, it is also a highly liquid asset that, since 1971, has achieved better annual returns than US bonds and stocks. These characteristics make it a useful investment asset for sovereign funds. Shaokai Fan, director of central banks and public policy at the World Gold Council joins Ben Robinson, senior economist at OMFIF, to discuss these developments.
