His ways are higher than ours, and although we do have to guard our hearts, set healthy boundaries, and pay attention to red flags, sometimes God is asking us to invest without a return and to trust Him to protect us and fill us up without our needs being met from other people.

We need His still small voice whispering, "This is the way, walk in it," because if we don't listen, we will do what is smart instead of what is Spirit led, and the richest reward is when we are Spirit led.
