In a small village prone to flooding, two families built homes side by side. One family took time to dig deep, lay a strong foundation, and follow building codes. The other rushed through, building quickly without much thought for the base. The houses looked similar on the outside—until the rainy season came.
Heavy rains poured, winds howled, and rivers overflowed. When the storm passed, only one house remained standing: the one built on the solid foundation.
Jesus told a similar story in Matthew 7. He was speaking to people who had heard His words—but He made it clear that hearing alone isn’t enough. The difference between the wise and foolish builder is simple: obedience. It’s the one who hears and puts it into practice whose life withstands the storms.
We are all building something—our faith, our families, our futures. The question is, what are we building on? Feelings? Trends? Convenience? Or the unshakable Word of God? Storms are inevitable, but when we build on Christ, we are built to last.
