Forgiveness is dismissing a debt that cannot be paid back. What was stolen from you is gone. It will never be the same. He can never pay you back for what he did to you. And while that is hard to hear, it is truth.

Forgiveness is also releasing your rights regarding the offense. Releasing your right to dwell on it. Your right to hold onto it. Your right to keep bringing it up.

“Whoever would foster love covers over an offense, but whoever repeat the matter separates close friends“ Proverbs 17:9

These are truths about forgiveness. You’re not forgiving in order to say that what was done to you was OK. You are forgiving so that you can be set free!

Being free requires forgiveness.
