John Riley began studying with Joe Morello in 1971, after meeting him at a drum symposium. John went on to attend the University of North Texas, where he played with the famed One O'clock Lab Band. After college he toured and recorded with Woody Herman and went on to freelance in New York with Stan Getz, Milt Jackson, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, John Scofield, and many others. He earned Mel Lewis’ coveted chair as his successor in the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, which he has played with for more than two decades. He is on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music, and is an Artist in Residence at Amsterdam Conservatory, in Holland. John is also the author of numerous popular method books and has taught master classes around the world. www.johnriley.org Website Newsletter Become a Patronview more
