We must "be always abounding in the work of the Lord" (1 Cor. 15:58) but how exactly do we do that? Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 15–16. Explaining the seamless transition between these two chapters, Paul urges believers to translate the hope of resurrection into steadfast, doctrinally faithful action, using the collection for the Judean churches (to which the Corinthians had promised but failed to contribute) as a concrete example of obedient, proportionate giving. The sermon emphasises that the recipients of salvation by grace are obliged to to serve Christ as Lord.
