Welcome to a special edition of The Penny Podcast. The theme is the Business of Creativity. It's a huge topic so the focus is going to be on the field of writing and the precarity of the individuals working in the sector.
Dr. Christina Williams joins us as the expert to drill down on the topic into the detail of the life of a novelist and how they make a living. She shares her valuable insight about what drives writers to write and what it takes to be a writer.
She has recently been awarded a PhD from CAMEo - Research Institute for Cultural and Media Economies, based at the University of Leicester. She is a lecturer in Media and Communications at University of West England.
An essential word on the soundtrack...
Collaboration makes everything sound better! Eva was inspired by the patterns of speech she encountered during her podcast recordings and thought it would resonate to turn the title of the podcast into music. She created a short melody by using the words 'Welcome to the Penny Podcast' and turning them into notes, which sounded great but 'a bit tinny'.
Credit where credit is due - please give thanks to Nicolás Ayala Ramírez, a former colleague on the MACCE course, for polishing up the soundtrack and giving it a professional touch.
