Luke 14 contains one of Jesus’ most shocking teachings: “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters—yes, even their own life—they cannot be my disciple.” In this chapter, Jesus explains the true cost of following Him and uses parables to show that discipleship is not about comfort but total commitment. He challenges us to place God above family, possessions, and even self-preservation. Luke 14 also includes the parable of the great banquet, showing God’s invitation to His kingdom and the danger of making excuses. This chapter asks us to wrestle with what it really means to be a disciple of Jesus.
