Today’s Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery with Matthew Russo

In this episode, Tim Fergestad talks with Dr. Matthew Russo, an orthopedic surgeon at OrthoArizona in Scottsdale who focuses only on total hip and knee replacement. Dr. Russo explains how modern joint replacement surgery has changed and why many patients now look for less invasive options that can help them recover faster and move better.

Dr. Russo shares how he uses the direct anterior approach for hip replacement, which allows him to go in through the front of the body and work between muscles instead of cutting through them. He explains that this can lead to less pain, better early mobility, and in many cases, same-day recovery at home. He also discusses his knee replacement technique, called subvastus, which protects the quadriceps muscle and helps patients get moving sooner.
