MEPs Back New Rules on Unfair Trading Prices - Kelly

Members of the European Parliament have backed measures to protect farmers from unfair trading practices by buyers.

The new rules, ban practices such as late payments for delivered products, refusal of a buyer to sign a written contract with a supplier and the use of hello money.

The European Parliament has repeatedly called for new measures to deal with UTPs since 2010.

Commission estimates for the agriculture and food processing SMEs in the EU show they lose between 2.5 and 8 billion euro per year.
