Producer's Note: I have no idea how this one slipped through the cracks unless I was just too distracted by work. So this is a make-good from a couple weeks ago. My apologies to Andy, Mylie, and all the fans. - GM

This week we’ll dive into the sweep of Wisconsin where Syd Gray arguably did enough to win her 3rd B1G Player of the Week award and Kaylin Kinney battled her way to her best weekend of the season.
We’ll also preview the upcoming Penn State series and let that slide into a Path to the Dance segment in which we get into the metrics and what the Huskers need to do to avoid the only option into the NCAA’s being to win the conference tourney.
Click below to join the show and please add any comments or questions and we’ll do our best to address them. Or at least better than last week - sorry about that.

Last week, Iowa lost the national title in the women’s basketball game to South Carolina.
At that time, I had tweeted out toward the end of the game, “Iowa will not win another national title,” and it started a bit of an argument on Twitter with some Iowa fans who I had trolled, and who started talking about their national titles and how they have more, because Iowa has 24 national titles in wrestling.
That’s a lot of titles, but it’s the only sport they’d ever won a national title in.
One of the responses was that Iowa has five national titles in football, to which I went, “What the hell is that about?” Because they don’t have five national titles in football. They claim five national titles in football.
At the same time, one of the other accounts on Twitter tweeted out a list of national titles held by people in football, and of course, Alabama claims 18 national titles and Michigan claims 11.
Nebraska has won five national titles. Could we claim more?
Particularly the 1915 national title.
We could, and that’s the subject of tonight’s show.

This week on the Five Heart Podcast, LIVE and rocking the Chatterfields, the crew discusses the quite possibly the worst thing to happen to Husker football...apathy.
We’re a few weeks away from the 2024 Spring Game with a 5-star quarterback, an Elite 11, homegrown quarterback, some exciting returning pieces and some dynamic transfer portal acquisitions. And tickets are still available to the Spring Game. Will that change before April 27? Probably.
You would think enthusiasm would be higher. We’re heading into Matt Rhule’s second season, where he traditionally sees a bump in the win column. But we’ve been through the “off-season champions” schtick before. So perhaps tempered expectations are the right step. It just seems...odd.
Weird things are happening in Lincoln this Spring. Things like “trades” and “roster maneuvers.” This three-roster split drives competition but are the waters too muddied?
Meanwhile, a world champion coach was in Lincoln dispensing his wisdom. Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick spoke at the X’s and O’s Conference.
Position changes and a Matt Rhule press conference.
Did I mention the best collection of a live audience n the Chatterfields? You know they always bring it!

It’s a full house this week as Greg and Minnie are joined by Andy and Aaron.
You know Andy from Husker Heat, the Nebraska softball show. Aaron is a pretty regular Chatterfield who has been a guest on the show before and is also the Corn Nation baseball beat writer.
So we obviously have to discuss Tuesday night’s loss to in-state rival Creighton. The 5-3 tilt ended Nebraska’s 10-game win streak that saw the Huskers appear in this week’s top-25 rankings. Aaron will break down Nebraska’s rise to the rankings and the likelihood that Will Bolt’s squad can stay there after the disappointing outcome Tuesday night in Omaha.
Basketball continues its roster maneuvers, with attrition and addition.
Let’s not forget that it’s April and we are in Spring Football season. Minnie has the latest and greatest news and notes from Lincoln as practices continue.
GBR.

Nebraska made the NCAA tourney for the first time in 10 years, and because of that, I've continued watching more basketball than I can previously recall. It has been one fun tourney on both on the men's side and the women's side.
On the women's side, we have Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese going at it. And by the time we do our show tonight, they will have played to see who gets into the Final Four.
Zach Edey and Purdue have made the final four in the men's bracket. These are fun things, because it's sports ball.
Otherwise, it's spring football time for Nebraska fans, and there's plenty going on there. And we will discuss some of the things about football, because when spring happens, it's time to look at our roster and say, what is going to be different or better than last year?
So that's what tonight's show will be about.

Insert exhaustive sigh here.
One win. That’s all we wanted. Nebraska men’s basketball made the tournament for the first time in a decade, but that 8 versus 9 matchup is always a toss-up. And Texas A&M shot the ball better than they had all season while Nebraska, sadly, was well under average. So not to sound like a beleaguered Cubs fan in the depths of misery, but “there’s always next year.”
Husker women fared marginally better, winning their game against Texas A&M just to follow it up with a loss to Oregon State. The magic just ran out.
But the saddest part will be saying farewell to great players who added so much to the program during their time in Lincoln. Players like Jaz Shelley and Keisei Tominaga, among others, left their mark on their respective teams.
Oh, and other players enter the transfer portal, making reiterating that “once a Husker always a Husker” is no longer valid.
Turning the page to Spring Football, a new athletic director, and “hope springs eternal” is how we end the show.
Despite recent outcomes and roster attrition, Nebraska is on the rise.
GBR!

Tonight we’ll review & preview as always and also chat about Billie hitting #55 and also some of the injuries which have plagued the team.

Nebraska basketball season is over.
The men had their best season in 23 years, beat a number one opponent for the first time in over 40 years, enjoyed court stormings and a trip to the NCAA tourney, but they still missed out on that elusive first win.
The women got their first NCAA tournament win in 10 years. Were these seasons successful?
What about basketball?
What were the best, and what were the worst things?
And what will the future hold?
For the second half of the show, Aaron, our baseball writer, joined me for an update on the baseball team. We covered the following:
Can Nebraska baseball win the Big Ten?
Why are other teams with worse RPI ranked and Nebraska isn’t?
Has the starting pitching rotation worked itself out yet?
Why do we want other Big Ten baseball teams to be as good as possible?
Who is Nebraska’s biggest rival in baseball now?

Thursday Mar 21, 2024

What a time to be alive.
Both the Nebraska men’s and women’s basketball teams are in action Friday night in their respective NCAA Basketball Tournaments. And in a wondrous case of coincidences, BOTH teams are playing Texas A&M. You remember them, right? That’s the same school that stole our former athletic director out from under our noses.
BUT GUESS WHAT...WE GOT OURELVES A NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTOR!
And if rumors are to be true, he has more history of building athletic programs than his predecessor. Some athletic directors close down wrestling and football programs. Others build up football programs, make the right hires along the way, and have Midwestern roots and sensibilities.
So that’s it...that’s our show in a nutshell. Probably won’t mention quarterbacks or anything because it’s not football season right now.
GO BIG RED!
