Creative SALON #4: Allyship
The fourth in a series of short SALON’s for creative professionals (artists, facilitators & teachers), our May session focussed on the theme of ‘Allyship’ - emphasising social justice, inclusion and human rights to advance the interests of a marginalised group.
Our guest speakers for this session were Lancaster based visual arts company GRAFT, in conversation with King Street Studios.
During the session GRAFT focussed on their work with the 'Young Changemakers' group - youth engagement and how to encourage the next generation of makers and curators to become stronger allies.
What is a SALON?
A gathering for professionals from different forms and fields, it is a chance to nurture creative conversations and bring about personal and professional development via networking, sharing expertise and supporting one another in a non-judgemental manner.

A Culture Co-op Roundtable Discussion
The world needs action, not optics – so how do we achieve this? The Culture Co-op has brought together a number of professionals in their field to discuss how, by understanding and accepting intersectionality, we can challenge deep-seated inequalities with concrete actions, so that the next generation of arts makers are not burdened by our past mistakes.
Join host SHAR (Manchester), Geraldine Onek (Lancaster Black History Group), Catherine Mugonyi (Auty Social, Blackpool) and Blue Saint (Liverpool) as they discuss what it has been like for them since the start of the #BLM movement.

Cultural Care Series #1 (The resources we bring)
Thursday Jan 21, 2021
Thursday Jan 21, 2021
A workshop for the Cultural Care Series, led by Dr Diane Potts from Lancaster University. This is a recording of the session held online on Wednesday 9th December 2020.
Synopsis
How we engage community members, regardless of age, is as powerful or more so than any specific project and our primary means of engagement is language. Language categorises and classifies. It invites in and silences. It ranks, assesses and evaluates. This session provided attendees with an opportunity to reflect on and strategise the language of their community engagement practices so that they were better able to align language with the larger aims of their projects.
