Sunday Apr 28, 2024

Sunday Apr 28, 2024

Guest host DP Derringer joins the rest of Team Derringer as they explore the new-wave, pop-rock band, The Cars. In the latter part of 1976, founding members Ric Ocasek and Benjamin Orr were joined by Elliott Eston, David Robinson, and Greg Hawkes to form the new wave pioneering band, The Cars.
The Cars were considered by many to be among the frontrunners of the New Wave music genre. By the early 1980s, The Cars’ videos were in regular rotation on the fledging music video channel, MTV.
Join Team Derringer as they delve into the formation of The Cars and highlight some of the band’s most popular hits. Have the songs stood the test of time? Let us know!

The theme song by Derringer Discoveries, Your Sister’s Room, is provided by the band Ho Jo Fro.

Saturday Apr 13, 2024

Team Derringer is joined by recording artist David Husted from Maryland in the US. David is a super fan of the Dublin, Ireland band U2. Together they count down David's Top 5 favorite U2 songs.
During this music adventure:
You will hear about a song written by U2 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr., including a snippet from one of MLK's most famous calls to action.
You will discover which U2 song features not one but two glockenspiels. Team Derringer will even tell you what in the world is a glockenspiel and which two members of the band played glockenspiels on the hit recording of a song that you will surely know.
David Husted's #1 pick will take you back to the legendary 1985 Live Aid concert and the 12 minutes that turned U2 from a promising rock band into global superstars when Bono jumped off the 10-foot-high stage mid-song to save the life of audience member Kal Khalique. By the way, Kal was a fan of the band Wham! not U2.
David and Team Derringer also each reveal their favorite songs from U2's 1987 classic album The Joshua Tree.
U2's 2024 hit song Atomic City is also included, along with David Husted's latest single Collide, released 12 April 2024.

Team Derringer is joined by recording artist Tilly Simon of the band &Tilly to count down Tilly’s Top 5 favorite songs by the band Blink-182.  The pop-punk band, Blink-182, formed in Poway, California [US] in 1992 and quickly rose to fame – especially with surfers, snowboarders, and skateboarders.
The band is renowned for its high-energy live shows and their adolescent humor. Comprised of bassist/vocalist Mark Hopper, guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge, and drummer Travis Barker, the band is experiencing a resurgence in popularity having just tied a record for the largest number of weeks at #1 on the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart. Blink-182’s 2023 hit, ONE MORE TIME, ties Portugal. The Man’s 2017 song, Feel It Still. Both songs spent 20 weeks atop the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart, however, ONE MORE TIME remained at #1 for 20 consecutive weeks from the time of its release while Feel It Still sat atop the chart off and on from June to December of 2017.
Our intrepid hosts delve into Tilly’s Blink-182 favorites and provide insightful background into each song they explore. Do you think Blink-182 is still as popular now as they were in the 90s? Listen in and tell us what you think!

Foo Fighters (EP55)

Thursday Feb 15, 2024

Thursday Feb 15, 2024

After the tragic demise of one of the most critically acclaimed grunge bands of the early 1990s, a new music project arose. Originally intended as a solo endeavor by a talented multi-instrumentalist (and former Nirvana drummer), Dave Grohl, the debut Foo Fighters album captured the interest of music industry executives.
Grohl had intended the Foo Fighters moniker to provide him with a bit of anonymity; however, he soon realized that a full band would soon be required to support the attention-grabbing endeavor. Slowly a full line-up of talented musicians coalesced around its founding member and primary songwriter.
By the time the band released its sophomore album, they were landing singles on music charts worldwide. Over the years, the Foo Fighters have won more than 10 Grammy Awards and continue to crank out chart topping singles and terrific – and often humorous – supporting videos.
In this episode, Team Derringer is joined by long-time friend and music super-fan, DP Derringer. Join the crew as they recap the founding of the Foo Fighters and explore their all-time favorite Foo Fighters songs.
At the end of this episode, you’ll hear from Jeff Touzeau along with his daughter Caroline Touzeau, who are running in the upcoming Boston Marathon to raise awareness for the TargetCancer Foundation: https://www.targetcancerfoundation.org. Interesting trivia: Jeff is a friend and former bandmate of Paul and Alton.

From 1970 to 1974, for 96 episodes, there was a wildly popular musical sitcom television show that aired in the United States. The show was called The Partridge Family.
It was a fictional American family who played music together, but The Partridge Family was based on a real-life family: The Cowsills. The Cowsills were comprised of siblings Bill, Barry, Bob, Paul, John, Susan, and Paul, along with their mother Barbara.
Founded in 1965, the family band had eight singles in the US that charted on the Billboard Hot 100. They produced their signature family harmonies for over five decades releasing their latest album, Rhythm of the World, in 2022.
Bob, Paul, and Susan still and various members of their families still perform over 60 live shows a year, and since 2015, have appeared annually on the Happy Together Tour with The Turtles and several other popular 60s-era bands. (Get your tickets now!)
Stay tuned for our interview today with Cowsill siblings Bob, Susan and Paul, the real-life Partridge family!
