This week's and next week's Black Spy Podcast features the rise, fall and rebirth of Morgan Khan, the legendary music mogul and entrepreneur who played a pivotal role in introducing various genres of black and urban music to the UK and Europe.

Morgan was the founder of Street Sounds, a record label that launched in 1982 and became the market leader of compilation albums, featuring the best of electro, hip-hop, house, and other styles of street music. Morgan was ahead of his time, licensing tracks from the US that were otherwise unavailable or expensive for UK consumers. He also discovered and developed many successful artists, such as Imagination, Jamiroquai, Dina Carroll, and Humanoid. We hear how Morgan worked with most of the major record companies and music publishers and hear how the anti Black racism of the industry executives, 99% White, failed to support Black artists to anything like the same degree as they did White artists.

In addition to his Street Sounds label Morgan had success in producing and promoting events and concerts. He is credited as pioneering electro/hip-hop, house, hip house and acid music in Europe.

Morgan's contribution to the music industry is exceptional and his influence is still felt today.
