Episode 016: A Caregiver’s Guide to Self-Care
Guest: Marissa McCallam
Body and Mindset Coach
Children of parents with mental and physical health issues, especially eldest daughters, tend to step into the role of caregiver. Learn how being a caregiver can affect your relationships, and how you can make self-care a priority... especially if you think you don’t deserve it.
Marissa is a Body & Mindset Coach, Writer and Founder of social enterprise Centre Myself. She believes that by connecting with our bodies and using simple tools to change our mindset, it is possible to lead a consistently calmer and happier life - a philosophy which helped her overcome 15 years of depression and anxiety.
After growing up in a household where mental and physical abuse were present, Marissa had anxiety and depression as a teenager, and throughout her twenties. Limiting self-beliefs and an internal story of "not being enough" led to years of suppressing her dreams, ignoring her intuition and repeating unhealthy patterns of behavior.
Following the breakup of a 14 year relationship, She found she had to reestablish who she was as an individual and rebuild her sense of Self. She did this through studying personal development, applying it to her own life, and keeping what worked. She learned that by connecting with her body, shifting her focus, and keeping things simple it was possible to be consistently happier.
