This was a period in the history of the Church were a division between the clergy and the people is solidified by false teachers – the Nicolaitas doctrine. Even though this is contrary to Scripture, the predominate characteristic of the church at this time was a separation of clergy from the people leading to very ignorant people when it comes to the Word of God and the clergy going the way of Balaam.
