In this episode, the Deacon and the Doc focus on Chapters Four and Five of Lumen Gentium. Chapter Four puts the laity front and center. Far from merely praying, paying, and obeying, the laity (as in the ancient Church), “is at the same time a witness and a living instrument of the mission of the Church itself.” (LG §33) Furthermore, as living instruments they, along with the whole Church, are expected to answer Pope Francis’s summons quoted above. By so doing, every baptized Catholic gives Christ to the world; becomes a bearer of the lumen to the gentes.
We hope the podcast continues to edify you. We’ll see you in class for our discussion of Lumen Gentium, chapters 6–8! Thank you for answering the call and being a part of our Vatican II document study.
