During the podcast, Dr. Ayana Martin shares her experiences as a medical science liaison. Presently, Dr. Martin is a Regional Medical Director in Rare Disease with a pharmaceutical company. In her interview, Dr. Martin shares her life and how and why she became interested in science and medicine. She discusses the full circle moment of her life and what drives her in her field and her desires moving forward. She has proven skills in delivering scientific information in a range of formats to a variety of audiences, including HCPs, patients, commercial colleagues, and even K-12 audiences.

 

Dr. Martin has been afforded some great opportunities and she understands the responsibilities that come with such rare and favored moments. She discusses her work as a scientific communicator, with a passion for Immunology, and its importance to the scientific community. As a strong advocate, she also stresses the importance of her presence in the medical field to ensure that the voice of her community is represented and heard while understanding that having a seat at the table offers her the ability to provide information and access to needed and often muted individuals. Dr. Martin offers both passion and professionalism to the field and has amazing desires for the future.

 

Dr. Ayana Martin earned her PhD in Molecular Medicine and Translational Science from Wake Forest University and a B.S. in Biology from Benedict College. With experience in academia, startup, and pharmaceutical/advertising industry, Dr. Martin is well-positioned to understand the language and priorities of each field.
