The EU’s climate boss says renewable energy is “the best investment we can make”. Wopke Hoekstra has been speaking at the UN’s climate change conference, COP29, taking place in Azerbaijan. At last year’s COP, world leaders agreed to a tripling renewable energy and a doubling energy efficiency by 2030. A rapid expansion of renewables helped the EU reduce its emissions by 8 per cent last year, according to the European Commissioner for Climate Action, Wopke Hoekstra. He says the EU is committed to meeting those targets which he says will bring new jobs as well as environmental benefits.
