Mark Rubin of the New York Daily News was the guest of Roger Lodge in The Sports Lodge this morning (Monday through Friday from 7-10 AM PST and on www.am830.net) talking about the big weekend with the New York Yankees in town to face the Los Angeles Angels. Rubin tipped us off that the captain Derek Jeter may only be about 70% condition heading into the weekend series.
Bartolo Colon takes the mound tonight having revamped and then rescinded lately in his extensive career to face Angels ace Jered Weaver. These games take on a high premium for the halos trying to reduce the 2 1/2 game Texas Rangers lead in the American League West. "I have to establish fastball command and put my offspeed stuff in good locations," Weaver said. "Obviously, that's always the challenge, especially against a team like the Yankees with all their weapons." (Jason Mastrodonato / MLB.com). Weaver will take to the mound with a sense of urgency Friday evening.
Minor League Player of the Year Mike Trout will be key in the series having been a source of energy and excitement to match his outfield mate Peter Bourjos. Those two young bats will be important as veteran Yankee pitchers come into Angels Stadium this weekend.
