This week's topic is about how to be extraordinary when things go awry in your business. Being an entrepreneur is a lot like riding a really long, unpredictable roller coaster that you happen to also be driving. Buckle up, because sometimes it's thrilling and other times, you are sure you are going to witness your dramatic demise. How do we handle ourselves and our business during these difficult times? What can we do to prevent bad things from happening or getting worse? How can we keep running our business in the midst of chaos?
We've been there and the good news is that you can keep your goals, projects, and business on course when the unexpected happens. You can't keep bad things from happening, but you can control how you react to them.
Just Some of the Juicy Tips from Jelly & Caitlin:
Don't react immediately if you are emotionally charged with anger, panic or fear. Do nothing about the situation until your rational brain returns.
Accept responsibility and take accountability for the situation.
Don't Over-Apologize. Take action to correct the situation and put a plan place to prevent it from happening again. Communicate to the impacted people all the steps you are taking to address the problem.
Practice Plan B thinking. Imagine realistic "what if" scenarios for your business. Does most of your revenue come from one customer or source? What if that goes away?
Your business goals can remain the same even if you have to change the way you achieve them.
Everything is temporary. The bad times as well as the good.
There is always good in the bad if you look for it. Entrepreneurs look for the opportunity in all things. Even disasters.
Find the humor in your situation.
When things get tough, the loyals and the assholes tend to reveal themselves. Act accordingly.
