Surya Namaskara

"Surya Namaskara is a series of 12 physical postures. These alternating backward and forward bending asanas flex and stretch the spinal column and limbs through their maximum range. The series gives such a profound stretch to the whole of the body that few other forms of exercise can compare with it". Swami Satyananda Saraswati.
The main message is to establish a daily routine and hopefully you will discover the effectiveness of this ancient technique. This practice revitalises the body and mind and helps to eradicate disease, but you must practice the technique in order to find out the truth for yourself. It is more than just a series of physical exercises. Of course it stretches, massages and tones and stimulates all the muscles, vital organs and physical parts by alternatively flexing the body backwards and forwards, but it also has the depth and completeness of a spiritual practice as it also involves the breath and mind.
So please start with this 10 minute practice and you can build on it. Just getting on your mat over the summer is my aim. I hope you enjoy this practice.
