Sometimes life doesn't turn out the way we want it to. And so it was for the donkey, the dog, the cat, and the roster in this story. But they didn't just give up, they took their destiny in their hands and went out to make their fortune.
This also didn't turn out as they had planned, but they did end up better off than they started, and became satisfied with their situation.
I love the way this story takes these animals and humanizes them at the same time keeping them in a world with people. And yet lets them be be both full characters and still animals.
I also enjoy the way this story brings characters that have little in common but a dream, and lets them work together and become friends.
Lessons like these are timeless, and is one of the reason this story remains a classic favorite.
