One of the larger groups of people we've had on a Spam Spam Spam Humbug episode discusses video game music: our early memories of it, its composition, the curation of soundtrack collections, and examples of prominent and memorable game soundtracks and songs.
Oh, and also a few counter-examples! And, of course...Ultima music!
Games discussed/used as examples: Dragon Slayer, Dragon Slayer 5, Sorcerian, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Run, Double Dragon, Mega Man, Final Fantasy, Streets of Rage, Bare Knuckle, Ultima 6, Ultima 7, The Black Gate, Deadly Towers, Ultima 9, The Legend of Zelda, Dragon Quest, Dragon Warrior, Tales of Fantasia, Mass Effect, Mixed-Up Mother Goose, Wing Commander, Wing Commander, Hero's Quest, Quest for Glory, Test Drive 3, Planescape: Torment, Marathon, Resident Evil
And now another game being made for another old gaming system is attempting to crowdfund the costs of having custom cartridges produced. This time, the game is Unholy Night: The Darkness Hunter (“an unreleased NTSC Format SNES cartridge title created in Japan”), which is being produced for the Super Nintendo by Blazepro (which is comprised of “members of the creative team who brought you games such as Samurai Shodown and King of Fighters”). Check them out on Kickstarter for more information.
