52 History of Mother's Day in Greece and the United States
The Greeks observed the goddess Rhea on Mother's Day, adapted by the Romans as well. We have traces of European celebrations back to the 1600's. In the United States, Mother's Day started because of Anna Jarvis in West Virginia in 1908.
