The Buddy Love Combo recorded this at a studio somewhere in Cleveland, Ohio; likely sometime around 1999-2000.
Although we were basically a bunch of old punk rockers; as the Buddy Love Combo, we touted ourselves as a lounge/swing group with knowledge/appreciation of traditional jazz, blues, R&B Standards. This allowed us to play many shows that we wouldn’t have even considered. We were expected to play numerous sets, for hours at a time, at Art galleries, museums, wine tastings, coffee houses, jazz clubs, anniversary parties, and MANY more similar events. In order to fill up the time, we would open and close many of our longer sets/nights with instrumental standards.
Cleveland’s Blues/Jazz/Rock veteran/legend, guitarist/vocalist Tom Shaper spent some time as a member of The Buddy Love Combo, serving as guitarist and “instrumental Music Director”. Tom has a resume five miles long, and if I ever speak with him again, I will try and pin it down bit.
To the best of our knowledge, this song was originally recorded by Charlie Parker in 1947.
