Cobras Win Sixth Straight after Blanking Heartland
Outstanding goal keeper play from Elijah de los Santos and an opportunistic offense, helped lead the #16 ranked Cobras to a 5-0 win over rival Heartland. The win, Parkland’s 6th straight, moves the Cobras to (7-2 4-0) while the Hawks drop to (5-5 1-3).
The early part of the match was controlled by Heartland as they pounded the Cobra keeper with 4 shots that resulted in three outstanding saves and another off the right post. However it was the Cobras who would strike first as Jesus Reina calmly knocked his shot by the Hawk defender off an assist from Henrique Santiago. Just six minutes later Tanner Kidwell connected, with Daniel Silva earning the assist, as PC took a 2-0 lead. That would be the Parkland lead at the half despite being outshot 8-5.
The Cobras kept their two goal margin for most of the half as the game became much more of a defensive struggle. After a scoreless first 30 minutes of the second half, PC would erupt for three goals in a six minute span to put the contest away. Zach Gowlett slipped one into the net off a pass from Chen Levien to get the run started and Levien would get a goal of his own as he perfectly placed the ball into the upper left corner of the net off a free kick. Just two minutes later, Kidwell would score his second goal of the afternoon as Gowlett earned the assist.
PC won despite being outshot 11-10 on the afternoon as de los Santos was the difference in goal as PC picked up their fourth shutout win of the season. The team will be back in action this Monday afternoon when they host the JV from the University of Indianapolis starting at 4:00.
