In this episode of the Vegetable Gardening show, Mike chats with professional vegetable gardener, David Mattern. David is caretaker of the vegetable gardens at Chanticleer located just outside of Philadelphia, PA.
David is responsible for making sure the vegetable gardens at Chaniticleer are not only aesthetically pleasing to the many visitors that come through and visit, but also productive as well.
David will share with us some of his watering techniques, how to use leaf compost properly and attracting beneficial insects to the Chanticleer vegetable gardens.

David holds a degree from Penn State University majoring in Landscape Contracting with an emphasis on design and a minor in Horticulture. He is also an alumnus of the Professional Gardener Training program at Longwood Gardens.
In addition to his full time job at Chanticleer Garden as an assistant Horticulturist, David also lectures, teaches, and writes on various gardening related topics. One of those topics being vegetable gardening, as one of his responsibilities at Chanticleer includes caring for the vegetable garden.
