Cobras Blow Past Rend Lake in Second Half to take Home Opener
After a pair of nail biting victories, the Cobras were able to relax a little bit in this one. After leading by just two at the break, PC outscored visiting Rend Lake 45-23 in the second half as they pulled away for an impressive 83-59 victory over Rend Lake. The win moves PC to (3-0 1-0) while Rend Lake drops to (1-2 1-2).
The Cobras jumped out to an early 28-13 lead but poor shooting by PC and some late three’s by Rend Lake cut the margin to just two at halftime. After the Warriors tied the game with a pair of free throws early in the second half, the #10 Cobras went on a 11-0 run sparked by a pair of three’s by Jordache Mavunga to give PC a 49-38 lead with 16:41 remaining. Rend Lake would score the next four points to cut the deficit to seven but PC would then go on a 13-0 run to push the lead to 62-42 with just over ten minutes remaining. The Warriors would get no closer than 17 the rest of the way as PC cruised to the 24 point win.
Mavunga had a double-double with 21 points and 10 boards as he was 8-13 from the field including 5-10 from behind the arc. Quin Nottingham came off the bench to add 14 as he was a perfect 6-6 from the line and also had 4 boards and 3 steals. Marcus Latham had 13 points and 4 assists while Isaiah Curry was big off the bench with 12 points and 5 rebounds. PC shot 43% for the game but 52% (12-23) from three point range and also made 15-18 at the line. Turnovers were a big part of the victory as they forced the Warriors into 25 while only having 12 of their own. PC also had 15 assists to just 7 for RLC. Rend Lake was led by Ike Okwara who had 13 points and 5 rebounds.
Parkland will return to action this Saturday afternoon when they host Lincoln Trail (1-2) starting at 3:00.
