The Female Athlete Triad with Lane 9’s Heather Caplan

The Female Athlete Triad with Lane 9’s Heather Caplan

Heather Caplan, RD joins us to discuss how under-fueling and over- exercising impacts the female body and how the Lane 9 Project speaking out about women's health, nutrition, fertility, and running.

  • The female athlete triad is sidelining female athletes. The triad includes low energy availability (under-fueling for your activity), amenorrhea (loss of period), and low bone mass. This can be normalized in our culture of women in sport but it is not. Delayed menses, multiple injuries and stress fractures, are red flags for the female athlete triad.
  • Heather shares her experience of her recovery and how our experiences can lead us to amazing things. For Heather, it was the Lane 9 Project a place of awareness of the female athlete triad and for women to share their personal stories.
