#4 Parkland Drops Regular Season Finale
The #4 Parkland Men’s Basketball team was outscored 19-11 over the final seven minutes Saturday as they dropped a disappointing 71-62 decision to Lincoln Land. The Cobras loss, couple with John Wood’s 81-76 overtime win at Lincoln, gives the Blazers the M-WAC title and the #1 seed in the Region 24 tournament. The defeat dropped the Cobras into the #3 seed where they will once again take on Lincoln Land this Friday night at 6:00 at Danville Area CC. Parkland must win three games in three days to earn their third consecutive trip to Nationals.
The visiting Loggers gained confidence early as they jumped out to a 16-8 lead. PC would claw back and take their first lead of the game at 20-19 on a Jordache Mavunga three with 8:46 before half. The two teams would exchange baskets for the remainder of the half as Lincoln Land took a 31-29 lead into intermission. LLCC would again start quickly as Trace Gentry drained three 3’s to push the lead to 44-35 with 15:02 remaining. PC would answer back and go on an 11-0 run to Myles Simmons would score 7 of the 11 points and give the Cobras the lead at 46-44 with 10:45 to go. The Cobras trailed just 56-54 with 5:29 left on the clock but Lincoln Land would score the next 10 points, giving them a double digit lead with just 2:09 to go in the game, and PC would get no closer than the final margin of defeat.
Lincoln Land won the contest by outshooting the Cobras 45% to 36%. The Loggers were especially effective from behind the arc where they hit 10-21 to just 2-15 for the Cobras. Lincoln Land had 14 assists on the afternoon to just 6 for Parkland. Gentry was the star for the Loggers as he scored 21 points, as he went 7 of 11 from behind the three-point line. D’Arron Owens had a big second half as he finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Jerrid Cosby added 13 points while DJ Doolin had 11 boards. Three players finished in double figures for Parkland as Marcus Latham had 15 points and 8 rebounds. Myles Simmons added 14 points and Quin Nottingham tossed in 10.
