Cobras Fall to ICC in Semi-Final to end Season
In the Women’s semi-final, the Cobras could not overcome cold shooting and total domination by ICC on the glass as the Cougars avenged their loss from last years’ tournament. The first quarter was well played with ICC holding a 19-16 lead after the first ten minutes. The Cougars used a combination of three pointers and put backs to build a 39-31 lead at the break. Unfortunately PC would shoot an ice cold 24% in the second half, including 1-12 from behind the three-point arc, handcuffing their efforts to cut into the Cougar lead. ICC meanwhile converted their 21 offensive rebounds into 23 points as they controlled the boards 52-29 on the afternoon.
Jasmine Levy paced ICC with a double-double as she scored 17 points and grabbed 12 boards. Sia Williams added 12 points and Bailey Larsen had 11. Abby Coates finished with 8 points and 10 rebounds for the victorious Cougars. Parkland had three players with 11 points as Heather DeLuca, Janiece Thomas, and Micah Tapscott all tied for the team lead while Crystal Mathis finished with 10.
Parkland wraps up their season with a final record of 23-7 and a #16 national ranking while the #14 ranked Cougars improve to (25-7). They will take on #22 Lake Land (22-10) in the title game at 2:00 Sunday at Lincoln Land CC in Springfield. The Lakers defeated John Wood 61-59 in overtime to advance to the finals. ICC defeated Lake Land less than two weeks ago in their only match up of the season.
