Michaela Thomas is a qualified Clinical Psychologist and experienced Cognitive Behaviour Therapist. She has two postgraduate qualifications in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy from Sweden and the UK, and is registered as a Clinical Psychologist both in Sweden and in the UK (with HCPC). She is also trained in Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Behavioural Couples Therapy. Michaela holds full accreditation with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
Outside of being the Managing Director of CBT Innovation, Michaela works as a Senior Clinical Psychologist within the CBT Clinic of the Occupational Health department in Guys and St Thomas Hospital in London. She has also worked within IAPT (primary care psychology services in the NHS) for seven years before that.
Michaela is also experienced in providing supervision and line management, both for Clinical Psychologists and for CBT Psychological therapists. She runs a supervision group within the Behavioural Treatment Clinic, as well as having individual supervisees. She has had training to the BPS Advanced Supervisor level. She has a special interest in managing the wellbeing of mental health staff through Self-Reflection / Self-Practice.
Michaela is a visiting lecturer in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of East London (UEL) and University College London (UCL).
Michaela has been writing a CBT column for The Behaviour Therapist, a member magazine for the Swedish Behaviour Therapy Association, for several years. She frequently covers workshops and conferences with articles and photography. Michaela is currently writing a book about Couples Behavour Therapy skills for couples in their wedding planning. She also writes a CBT blog from this website.
Michaela has a special interest in wellbeing and preventative measures to manage daily stress and worries with physical and psychological exercises. Compassion Focused Therapy and Compassionate Mind Training can be used to help managing wellbeing overall and within an organisational setting. These skills can be applied both to individuals within the company and overall for organisations trying to promote productivity and wellbeing of staff.
