Episode 9: Personal Best
Sports! This week, we're digging into the surprisingly good 1982 movie Personal Best starring Mariel Hemingway and Patrice Donnelly and some more dudes we hate! Of course Sarah is super excited about a movie involving runners who are queer women because that is her exact wheelhouse, but this movie has a surprising amount of nuance and interesting storytelling (even though it was, obviously, made by white dudes). It's still from the 80s so it has its problematic elements, but join Alicia and Sarah as they dive into this almost-forgotten classic to talk body diversity, the portrayal of intimacy, tropes they don't like, soundtrack and cinematography, and pure athleticism!
