Informed Radio Interview with Gary Wilkerson of World Challenge
As Americans embrace the season of giving, World Challenge invites them to remember those in need. Nearly half of the world’s population—more than 3 billion people—are living in extreme poverty; 805 million people do not have enough food to eat, and more than 750 million people lack adequate access to clean drinking water.
World Challenge leads the way in providing long-term sustainable solutions unique to each community. Each community has different obstacles to overcome, and World Challenge works with local leaders to create lasting change. Led by Gary Wilkerson, son of the late Rev. David Wilkerson, it offers health and hygiene programs, clean water and sanitation, agricultural efficiency, micro-business support, and spiritual training.
Sofia was living in a tiny hut with her husband and 12 children. Every day she struggled to put food on the table. One day, a World Challenge leader taught Sofia how to farm her land more effectively through its Community Health Evangelist program. After several years, their lives changed dramatically. Sofia’s family has now harvested corn fields, peanut fields, citrus and banana groves, and put her children through school due to income from cash crops. Sofia now serves as a Community Health Evangelist to share the same message of hope that transformed her family’s life.
Today, World Challenge is active in 13 countries and has supported 302 communities since it began, bringing hope to hundreds of thousands of people like Sofia living in extreme poverty worldwide. In addition to poverty relief efforts, World Challenge provides devotionals, newsletters, and hosts worldwide conferences to help people experience life more fully.
Gary Wilkerson is the President of World Challenge, an international mission organization that was founded by his father, David Wilkerson. He is also the Founding Pastor of The Springs Church, which he launched in 2009 with a handful of people. He has traveled nationally and internationally at conferences and conducted mission ventures such as church planting, starting orphanages, clinics, feeding programs among the poorest of the poor and the most unreached people of the earth
