State Christmas Tree... an MTA tradition
In this special holiday episode of Township Talk, host Scott Southard and producer Aimee West talk with MTA Life Member Denny Olson, supervisor of Breitung Charter Township (Dickinson Co.). For 18 years, Denny has played the role of Michigan’s own Santa, helping to find the state Christmas tree that is lit up in front of the Capitol for the holiday season. MTA and its members have also had a long history as part of the state Christmas Tree Crew, from scouting for the tree, being an integral part of the tree-cutting ceremony that engages the entire community, to getting the tree to Lansing for the Capital City’s Silver Bells holiday celebration. In the episode, listen as Denny reflects about this fun—and meaningful—experience, and some of the adventures he has had along the way.
