Excellent topic Rick. I really appreciated Kirk’s point of helping the front line see how they win through leading indicators whereas normally they can’t with lagging indicators. Leading indicators normally align with things you control versus lagging indicators measure effectiveness of the whole system. A couple more examples: process safety- # of health checks conducted on IPL’s to ensure that they are in service and functioning, health check on shift turnover communications to ensure situational awareness, and # process safety observations through the month that lead to a training engagement in the field on role of employee and how it supports process safety. On the personal front , 3 leading indicators in golf that have helped me reduce my handicap from 28 to 15: tracking %of drives in fairway, %of greens reached in regulation and #of putts/round. My improvement came in getting more accurate off the tee box and putting. However, to get better, I have to focus on GIR. CI in the personal space is about striving to get better while knowing where you need to get better and balancing the passion around both. Thanks for your passion. Todd
